Baltimore rabbi joins Sermon Series on the 50th anniversary of the War on Drugs

On Saturday, Rabbi Daniel Burg of Baltimore’s Beth Am Synagogue, located in Reservoir Hill, gave a sermon on the 50th anniversary of the War on Drugs as part of Open Society Foundations’ and Faith in Harm Reduction’s Sermon Series on the subject.

“At its core, the problem with the War on Drugs is that it falsely portrays those who struggle with addiction as either irredeemable criminals or hapless victims, instead of human beings who struggle, like so many, with a disorder,” he said. “The War on Drugs is a war on people. Worse, it’s largely a war on specific people who are battle-weary and, understandably, fed up. We need to be mindful of that history on this day and every day.”
