Residents make trek to supermarket to demonstrate West Baltimore "food desert"

In West Baltimore, the walk to the nearest supermarket is a tall order for those who live in the Matthew Henson community.

And, according to residents of the 21217, so is getting something done about it.

"I would like to encourage, call out and inspire our city officials," began Rod Hudson, a local pastor and member of Act Now. "I would call on our Mayor Brandon Scott to come on out and see. Come on out, [Councilman] James [Torrence], walk with us and maybe a mindset will happen."

The president of the Matthew Henson Neighborhood Association, Marvin "Doc" Cheatham, took part in the march, and is also calling on city leaders to take action.
